FAQ

Short answers to the questions we hear most about the Hormouz API. Compatibility, keys, billing, models, and limits.

FAQ

Is Hormouz OpenAI-compatible?

Yes. POST /v1/chat/completions, GET /v1/models, POST /v1/embeddings, and POST /v1/audio/* follow the OpenAI wire format. Official OpenAI SDKs work by changing only base_url and the API key. Errors carry an OpenAI-style type field.

What is the base URL?

https://api.hormouz.net/v1. Auth is a single header: Authorization: Bearer ng-YOUR_KEY.

Where do I get an API key?

Your account admin creates it; it is shown exactly once. If lost, the admin can reset it from the dashboard. Treat it like a password. Anyone holding it can spend your balance.

Which models are available?

350+ chat models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, GLM, Kimi, DeepSeek, Llama and more) plus curated image, video, and audio models. GET /v1/models lists chat models with prices; the full catalogue is browsable with per-model pages.

How does billing work?

Prepaid credit. Each request places a temporary hold at the estimated cost, then settles to the actual provider-reported cost when the response completes. You pay for what was actually used. Details: billing.

What happens when my balance runs out?

Requests fail fast with HTTP 402 and \"type\":\"insufficient_quota\". Nothing is queued or silently dropped. Top up and the same key works immediately.

Are there rate limits?

Yes. A per-account request-per-minute budget plus a cap on concurrent streams. Hitting one returns 429 with \"type\":\"rate_limit_error\"; OpenAI SDKs retry automatically with backoff.

Can I use Hormouz inside my code editor?

Yes. VS Code (Copilot BYOK), ZCode, Cline/Continue, and Cursor's chat panel all work with your key. Step-by-step: Use Hormouz in your editor.

Does streaming work?

Yes. Set \"stream\": true on chat completions for standard SSE. Token deltas, a final usage chunk, and the data: [DONE] terminator. See streaming.

Do I earn anything for referring someone?

Yes. Until the end of Mehr 1405 (22 October 2026), every top-up by an account created with your referral code adds 2.5% of it to your balance, and another 2.5% to that account's own balance. There is no cap on the number or size of top-ups. Your code and link are on the Referrals page of the dashboard.
